ISTANBUL, 26 MAY 2016: Noted Pakistani philanthropist and Chairman of Taaleem Foundation Dr. Zafar Iqbal received Global Good Governance Award on behalf of his organization at an impressive ceremony during Global Donors Forum 2016, a biennial event of the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists. Ambassador of Malaysia in Turkey H.E. Mr. Dato’ Amran Mohamed Zin conferred the Award on Taaleem Foundation for having developed and deployed global good governance practices in promoting education in Pakistan. The Award was granted in the category of female education.
During Global Donors Forum (GDF) held from 25-26 May in Istanbul and chaired by Dr. Sare Davutoglu and Dr. Aisha Faleh Al-Thani, prominent leaders from the government, business, and charitable sectors as well as academicians and researchers discussed critical issues including social finance, impact of philanthropy for SDGs, resilience and radicalization, diplomacy and strategic communication and philanthropic response to refugees crisis. First GDF was held in Istanbul in 2008 and was chaired by then Prime Minister of Turkey Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan. GDF 2016 discussed setting new priorities and redefining the role of philanthropy, with a focus on the Muslim World in a changing global landscape.
Dr. Zafar Iqbal established Taaleem Foundation as a non-profit community support organization in 1989. It is now imparting education in the far-flung areas of Pakistan. Dr Zafar has been a senior professional in public sector with a significant diversity in roles and experience from philanthropy to private sector support, corporate sector facilitation and public sector service delivery. Dr Zafar Qadir – recipient of Global Good Governance Award of the year at Global Donors Forum in Istanbul Turkey is former Chairman NDMA and former Secretary IT & Telecom at Government of Pakistan.
